The Macap Supra 83 G is the grind by weight version of the Supra 83: the same 83mm flat burrs and 750W motor, with a load cell built into the portafilter fork that weighs the dose as it is ground. Macap designed the G Series to bring grind by weight into busy commercial service without slowing it down, and it is built for very high volume bars.
Slide in the portafilter and take your hand away: Instant Tare Technology tares it straight away and grinding starts. With Smart Dose Recognition the grinder recognises the portafilter you are using and applies the dose you have paired with it, so each basket keeps its own recipe. Doses are set in grams, in 0.1g steps, or in seconds if you prefer, and two weighing algorithms adapt the scale to a stable counter or to one with vibrations.
Behind the bar it works the way a barista expects. The 3.5in touch screen holds four programmable doses plus continuous grinding, timed to the hundredth of a second, and you choose how grinding starts: from the display, from the dosing button or both. The hands free fork is height adjustable and damps vibration, and the CTS (Coffee Targeting System) spout can be adjusted to drop the coffee in the centre of the basket.
Grind adjustment is micrometric, with Macap's FOS (Fast Opening System): a quick release frees the upper burr carrier in a single move, with no screws, so the burrs are easy to reach, and a click switches between micro and macro adjustment on an engraved ring. The anti clumping plate comes out with two screws for cleaning, and the integrated fan, adjustable on five levels, helps keep temperatures down when service gets busy.
The screen also keeps daily, weekly and total dose counters, can be locked with a four digit password and can show your own logo and screensavers; software updates, logos and images load from a USB-C stick.
What we love
We think the G Series makes sense exactly where grind by weight usually struggles: at peak service. Tare and portafilter recognition take the weighing out of the barista's hands, there is no external scale on the counter, and every shot is dosed by weight rather than by time.
